Camera and permissions
Why does Grainveil need Camera access?
Camera access lets Grainveil show the viewfinder, focus, meter, and take photographs. The live image and finished photograph are processed on your iPhone.
Why does it request Photos access?
Grainveil first requests add-only access so it can save captures. It asks for broader library access only when you open its gallery. You can review or change access in iPhone Settings.
What happens if a photograph cannot save?
Grainveil keeps a protected recovery copy inside the app so you can retry after restoring Photos access or relaunching. The recovery copy is removed after a successful save.
Does Portrait mode upload my photograph?
No. Camera depth and the bundled Smart Depth model both run on your device. Grainveil does not operate an image-processing service.
Which lenses and modes are available?
Rear wide, ultra-wide, telephoto, and front cameras appear when supported by your iPhone. Some depth paths and lens combinations depend on the camera hardware available on that device.
Which lenses are free?
Clean, Natural, and Hex are included free. Collection I is an optional, one-time purchase that unlocks Dream, Veil, and Meridian, with Family Sharing and no subscription.
How do I restore Collection I?
Open Settings → Lens Collections → Restore Purchases and sign in to the Apple Account used for the purchase.
Does my TestFlight purchase carry over?
TestFlight uses Apple’s no-charge sandbox purchase flow. Those test purchases do not carry over to the App Store version. To use Dream, Veil, and Meridian in the App Store version, purchase Collection I in Settings → Lens Collections, or restore an existing App Store purchase.
What does Depth change?
In Portrait mode, open Style and choose Depth. Move toward Shallow for more out-of-focus blur, or Deep for less. Each depth-enabled lens remembers its setting. Clean has no added depth blur.
Why does the preview sometimes look simpler?
The live preview uses a lighter rendering budget than the developed photograph. On a warm iPhone, Grainveil reduces preview work and may use a basic camera preview. If iOS pauses the camera itself, Grainveil shows a separate message and resumes when the camera becomes available.
Is film grain visible before I take the photograph?
Grain is applied to the developed photograph, not the live viewfinder. Choose Off, Fine, or Rich under Style → Grain.
